多元系統(tǒng)理論視角下《傳習(xí)錄》兩個英譯本的比較

  《傳習(xí)錄》是記載我國明代學(xué)者王陽明主要哲學(xué)思想的一部重要著作,也是研究王陽明心學(xué)必讀的入門之書。此書自1572年收入《王文成公全書》以來,先后被翻譯成多種語言向海外推介,在東亞及西方世界中有一定的影響。《傳習(xí)錄》迄今僅有兩個全英譯本,由亨克與陳榮捷分別于1916年和1963年譯成并出版。二者出版時中美的歷史及社會文化環(huán)境存在諸多不同,兩個譯本的語言特征及兩位譯者所采取的主要翻譯策略也存在很大差異。多元系統(tǒng)理論由以色列學(xué)者伊塔瑪·埃文—佐哈爾(1939—)于二十世紀七十年代提出,它將所有符號現(xiàn)象視作異質(zhì)、動態(tài)的系統(tǒng),而各系統(tǒng)又有其各自的中心及邊緣。這一理論將翻譯研究從語言層面解放,置于宏觀的歷史及社會文化語境中,強調(diào)翻譯文學(xué)在目標語文學(xué)系統(tǒng)中所處的位置,為翻譯研究提供了更廣闊的視野。多元系統(tǒng)理論自提出以來,已經(jīng)被用于多部中文典籍的英譯研究。但通過CNKI、萬方、維普等數(shù)據(jù)庫進行文獻檢索,至本文寫成之時,暫未見到國內(nèi)學(xué)者運用多元系統(tǒng)理論對亨克和陳榮捷的《傳習(xí)錄》英譯本進行比較研究的文獻。本文以多元系統(tǒng)理論為基礎(chǔ),以亨克與陳榮捷兩位譯者在不同時期翻譯的《傳習(xí)錄》英譯本為研究對象,將譯者與譯本置...
