后殖民翻譯理論視角下賽珍珠《水滸傳》譯本研究

【摘要】:賽珍珠是美國女作家,1932年因撰寫中國題材的小說《大地》取得普利策獎,1938年獲得諾貝爾文學(xué)獎。她生在美國,卻長在中國,后來又回美國接受高等教育,所以同時受到東西方文化的熏陶。她也是將《水滸傳》介紹給西方的第一人,為東西方文化交流做出了巨大貢獻(xiàn),但學(xué)術(shù)界長期以來對賽珍珠的關(guān)注僅僅放在她作為作家和社會活動家的成就上。國內(nèi)外學(xué)術(shù)界對其評價褒貶不一:一方面,美國有學(xué)者認(rèn)為她在文學(xué)造詣上不算是最優(yōu)秀的;另一方面,中國也有學(xué)者認(rèn)為她的譯作是死譯。正是出于對此問題的好奇,筆者希望通過研究,找到一個對賽譯《水滸傳》的較合理的評價。鑒于賽珍珠的特殊身份,文章選取后殖民翻譯理論為研究視角。后殖民翻譯理論倡導(dǎo)翻譯要擺脫傳統(tǒng)的翻譯等值觀的制約,認(rèn)為翻譯不僅只是語言問題,更是社會、文化和政治問題。翻譯應(yīng)被看成是一種抵抗殖民統(tǒng)治的工具。后殖民理論家呼吁在全球化背景下的后殖民時代,第三世界國家的人民要抵制西方國家的文化入侵,不能用殖民者國家的語言文化為本土代言,必須堅持邊緣文化的特殊性和保持文化的差異性和多樣性。霍米巴巴提出的雜合理論認(rèn)為任何一個譯本都不是純粹的采用歸化或譯化的翻譯策略,都呈現(xiàn)出譯本的第三種狀態(tài)。本文聚焦賽珍珠在翻譯《水滸傳》時所采取的翻譯策略。研究發(fā)現(xiàn),譯者在歸化和異化策略間徘徊。本文通過理論闡釋的方法,在原本和譯本對比細(xì)讀的基礎(chǔ)上,引用大量例證,說明賽珍珠的雙重文化身份,使她在翻譯過程中陷入兩種狀態(tài):方面,出于對中國文化的喜愛和忠誠,她試圖最大程度地保留中國文化與西方文化間的差異;另一方面,為了迎合西方讀者,出于交流的需要,在信息傳達(dá)的過程中她又采用了西方讀者熟悉的表達(dá)法來翻譯原文本。但這種矛盾也恰恰說明,譯者在翻譯過程中試圖達(dá)到兩方面均衡的前提下,對她所了解的中國文化進(jìn)行更多地展示。

Postcolonial translation theory advocates translation to get rid of the traditional concept of translation equivalence constraints, that translation is not just a language problem, but also a social, cultural and political issues. The translation should be regarded as a kind of resistance to colonial rule tool. Postcolonial theorists call the colonial era in the context of globalization, the third world people to resist cultural invasion of western countries, can not use the national language and culture for the local settlers endorsement, must adhere to the principle of marginal culture particularity and maintaining cultural diversity and diversity. Homi Bhabha's hybridity theory proposed that any translation not purely by domestication or translation of the translation strategies are versions of the third state. But the contradiction is precisely that, the translator tries to achieve balance under the premise of two in the process of translation, for she knew China culture show more.
