社會科學(xué)與自然科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文轉(zhuǎn)述動詞對比研究

【摘要】:轉(zhuǎn)述動詞在學(xué)術(shù)論文中起著至關(guān)重要的作用,其主要是用來建立作者的理論體系,引述前人的成果以展示作者的立場及觀點。本研究基于自建的約100萬詞的學(xué)術(shù)論文語料庫,對社會學(xué)科和自然學(xué)科學(xué)術(shù)論文中出現(xiàn)的轉(zhuǎn)述動詞特征進行了對比分析。社會科學(xué)語料庫和自然科學(xué)語料庫分別包含75篇、約50萬詞的學(xué)術(shù)論文。所有的學(xué)術(shù)論文都是下載自Science Direct全文數(shù)據(jù)庫,并由以英語為本族語的學(xué)者所撰寫。本研究以Thompson and Ye(1991)和Hyland(1999)所提出的對于轉(zhuǎn)述動詞的定義及分類為框架,對社會科學(xué)和自然科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文中轉(zhuǎn)述動詞的頻率特征、語法特征(時態(tài)和語態(tài)),以及語義特征(指示意義和潛在價值)進行了分析。研究結(jié)果顯示,社會科學(xué)和自然科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文中轉(zhuǎn)述動詞的使用有其相同和不同特點。頻率研究發(fā)現(xiàn),轉(zhuǎn)述動詞find在社會科學(xué)和自然科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文中使用頻率最高。propose,consider,believe,note,define,emphasize,agree 在社會科學(xué)和自然科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文中使用的頻率相近,沒有顯著性差異。就本研究所涉及轉(zhuǎn)述動詞而言,社會科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文中使用的頻率是自然科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文的兩倍。find,suggest,examine,observe,study,report,discuss,investigate,present,reveal在社會科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文中出現(xiàn)的頻率高于自然科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文,并具有顯著性差異。conclude在自然科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文中出現(xiàn)的頻率高于社會科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文,呈顯著性差異。語法研究發(fā)現(xiàn),社會科學(xué)和自然科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文中更多地選擇使用一般現(xiàn)在時和主動語態(tài)。但是,社會科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文相對多地選用一般現(xiàn)在時和主動語態(tài),而自然科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文中相對多地選用一般過去時被動語態(tài),二者之間具有顯著性差異。語義研究發(fā)現(xiàn),從指示意義角度來看,研究動詞是社會科學(xué)和自然科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文中使用頻率最高的轉(zhuǎn)述動詞。從潛在價值角度來看,具有積極價值的轉(zhuǎn)述動詞是社會科學(xué)和自然科學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文中最常用的動詞類別。本研究結(jié)果可以幫助中國英語學(xué)習(xí)者在學(xué)術(shù)論文寫作過程中更加準(zhǔn)確地選擇轉(zhuǎn)述動詞、準(zhǔn)確無誤地表達他們的態(tài)度、想法及目的,也可以幫助學(xué)生們提高構(gòu)建學(xué)術(shù)論文語篇的能力。
[Abstract]:Reporting verbs play an important role in academic papers. They are mainly used to establish the theoretical system of the author and to quote the previous achievements to show the author's position and viewpoint. Based on a self-built corpus of about 1 million words of academic papers, this study makes a comparative analysis of the features of reporting verbs in academic papers of social sciences and natural sciences. The Social Science Corpus and the Natural Science Corpus contain 75 articles, about 500000 words, respectively. All papers are downloaded from the Science Direct full-text database and written by native English speakers. Based on the definition and classification of paraphrase verbs proposed by Thompson and Ye (1991) and Hyland (1999), the frequency characteristics of reporting verbs in academic papers of social sciences and natural sciences are studied. Grammatical features (tense and voice) and semantic features (demonstrative and potential value) are analyzed. The results show that the use of paraphrase verbs in academic papers of social sciences and natural sciences has the same and different characteristics. Frequency studies show that find is the most frequently used in social sciences and natural sciences, and there is no significant difference in the frequency of the use of the verb find in social science and natural science. As far as the reporting verbs involved in this study are concerned, the frequency used in social science academic papers is twice as frequent as that in natural science academic papers. The frequency of appearing in social science academic papers is higher than that in natural science academic papers. The frequency of conclude in natural science academic papers was higher than that in social sciences papers, and there was significant difference between them. Grammatical studies have found that the general present tense and active voice are more frequently used in social science and natural science academic papers. However, the general present tense and active voice are relatively used in the academic papers of social sciences, while the passive voice of the general past tense is relatively used in the academic papers of natural science, which has a significant difference between them. From the point of view of demonstrative meaning, the research verb is the most frequently used reporting verb in the academic papers of social science and natural science. From the perspective of potential value, reporting verbs with positive value are the most commonly used verb categories in academic papers of social science and natural science. The results of the present study can help Chinese EFL learners to choose the reporting verbs more accurately and express their attitudes, ideas and purposes more accurately in the process of writing academic papers. It can also help students to improve their ability to construct academic discourse.
