[Abstract]:Alice Walker is one of the influential black women writers in contemporary American literature. Her masterpiece, Purple, has received critical attention since it was published, and has brought her great success and honor. She was nominated for the National Book Review Award and the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award the following year. Because Purple has attracted the interest of many scholars and critics, they have published a lot of articles to express their views, which focus on the development of women, the relationship between women and the transformation of women. However, the success of this novel lies not only in Walker's vivid depiction of the process of women's liberation, but also in pointing out the possibility and necessity of the transformation of black men and women so as to realize harmonious coexistence between men and women and build a beautiful home together. This is the essence of Walker's feminism. Feminism was put forward by Walker in order to distinguish black feminism from broad-sense feminism. Walker pointed out that feminists not only love women and women's culture, but also strive for the survival and integrity of the entire black community. Therefore, the transformation and development of men is an integral part of the realization of feminism. In addition, the growth of black women and their tolerance and fraternity in the novel also accelerate the process of male transformation, which is the key factor of male growth. The full text is divided into four parts. The first chapter introduces Alice Walker's literary achievements and the outline of the story of Purple. The second chapter focuses on the analysis of Albert's transformation process. Describes his transformation from a cold-blooded husband to a loving, patient and willing partner to do sewing with his wife. Chapter three focuses on the transformation of Hubble, Albert's son. Depicts his transition from a passive victim of patriarchal oppression to a gentle husband who loves housework. The last chapter concludes with a summary of male transformation and development as an integral part of achieving black internal unity. Previous studies have focused on the female growth, female solidarity and same-sex relationships in the novel, but this paper tries to achieve the existence and integrity of the black people through the transformation and development of the two main black male images. At the end of the paper, it is mentioned that there is still a long way to go to achieve the unification of the black people.
