福賽特世家的老喬里恩及其人生理念

自長(zhǎng)篇巨著《福賽特世家》問世以來,“福賽特主義”已成為極端占有欲的一種代名詞。在該作品第一部書《有產(chǎn)業(yè)的人》里,高爾斯華綏塑造了一個(gè)非常重要的人物:老喬里恩。盡管老喬里恩并非該書情節(jié)主線的主角索米斯,但他的頻繁出場(chǎng)并不下于后者,作者對(duì)他的特殊關(guān)注也是顯而易見的。作為現(xiàn)實(shí)主義文學(xué)大師,高爾斯華綏安排老喬里恩這一人物完成本書中幾乎所有的形而上學(xué)思考。因此,論文試圖通過分析老喬里恩的“人生理念”,進(jìn)一步探討高爾斯華綏筆下的“福賽特主義”。 論文第一部分總結(jié)概括了老喬里恩這一人物,認(rèn)為他既扮演了福賽特家族家長(zhǎng)這一角色,同時(shí)又是日不落大英帝國(guó)的縮影。第二部分是對(duì)老喬里恩最重要的人生理念——對(duì)“美”的崇拜——的分析。該部分描述了老喬里恩時(shí)代的唯美主義運(yùn)動(dòng)及其影響,并通過分析老喬里恩和“美”的化身——伊琳——的關(guān)系,表現(xiàn)了他對(duì)“美”的理解。論文第三章著重分析老喬里恩的道德理念。他的道德理念深受維多利亞時(shí)代道德的制約,其影響既有正面的,也有負(fù)面的。最后一章探討了老喬里恩的財(cái)產(chǎn)觀。強(qiáng)烈的占有欲是福賽特的標(biāo)志性特征,老喬里恩也未能例外。然而,他與索米斯的不同也正體現(xiàn)在此處:不同于索米斯的極端占有欲,老喬里...
