    前言：美國醫(yī)療傳教士嘉約翰是近代西醫(yī)傳入中國過程中的關(guān)鍵人物之一。他創(chuàng)辦博濟(jì)醫(yī)院 ,為近代西醫(yī)在中國歷史最悠久、影響最深遠(yuǎn)的醫(yī)院之一 ;開展醫(yī)學(xué)教育 ,所建博濟(jì)醫(yī)院附屬醫(yī)學(xué)校 ,是中國第一所專業(yè)性的西醫(yī)醫(yī)學(xué)學(xué)校 ;編輯醫(yī)學(xué)書籍和期刊 ,對(duì)當(dāng)時(shí)的中國醫(yī)學(xué)界系統(tǒng)了解西方醫(yī)學(xué)起了很大作用。嘉約翰在中國近半個(gè)世紀(jì) ,為西醫(yī)在中國的發(fā)展作出了貢獻(xiàn)。
