《堡壘》中宗教的功用研究

《堡壘》(1946)于西奧多·德萊塞逝世后出版,是一部能夠鮮明體現(xiàn)作者宗教哲學(xué)的代表作品。在主題及寫作手法方面,這部小說與德萊塞其他的作品均有明顯差異。德萊塞與時任美國教友會領(lǐng)袖羅富斯·馬修·瓊斯的會面和隨后的書信往來對于《堡壘》一書的創(chuàng)作起到了很大的作用。瓊斯的人生和思想極大地激起了德萊塞對于約翰·烏爾曼《日記》的好奇心,并將他引向了貴格教派神秘主義的道路上。《堡壘》一書的故事情節(jié)圍繞一個教友會家庭中兩代人之間的沖突與和解展開。作為一個虔誠的教友會信徒,主人公蘇倫·巴恩斯歷經(jīng)對教友會教義深深的依賴,對“神之光”的重新審視,以及最終對于神之旨意的領(lǐng)悟,從而獲得了自身的精神安寧�！侗尽菲降臄⑹鲲L(fēng)格中亦包含著作者一生對于宗教以及人性的思考。然而,這部略顯怪異的小說長期以來備受忽視,在德萊塞研究中很少被涉及到。因此,本研究聚焦于《堡壘》中的宗教沉思,以期探尋宗教對于引領(lǐng)現(xiàn)實生活以及建構(gòu)精神世界的功用。本論文由五部分構(gòu)成。引言部分簡要概述了德萊塞的生平以及《堡壘》一書的創(chuàng)作緣起。接下來是國內(nèi)外關(guān)于德萊塞、尤其是其作品《堡壘》的研究綜述,還引入了有關(guān)教友會的一些必要的背景介紹,以及威廉·詹姆斯...
